American Filley Painted Tin Box c. 1825-1845
In a hard to find medium size, a very nice painted tin box with strong attribution to the Captain Oliver Filley shop of
Bloomfield Connecticut, c. 1825-1845.
Filley established himself in tinware around 1806 and died in 1846. For more information, see DeVoe The
Tinsmiths of Connecticut.
This box is approximately 6-1/2" x 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" (excluding the bail).
In excellent untouched (no inpainting) condition, there are some paint losses on the front but the fruit, leaf and
swag decoration overall is excellent. Note the lower swag and drop that go around three sides but are not
straight and do not quite line up.
All elements in good working order with no repairs. There are a few minor dents to the lid.
