A set of four 10-3/4 inch dishes Boardman & Co. New York c. 1825-35. Although marked New York, most of the pewter was made in Hartford Connecticut by Thomas Danforth Boardman and his brother Sherman. The Boardman group made pieces that emulated the best of 18th century designs. These dishes work exceedingly well with Boardman flagons.
The dishes all have the quality X touchmark. Two dishes have two of the Boardman & Co. New York eagle touchmarks, as well as the N-York rectangle mark. Of the two dishes where the Boardman & Co eagle is found singly, it is flanked by two no-name eagles. Note the similarity of the four-point marking pattern on each dish, but also note that two dishes (one of each type) are struck in a more narrow pattern than the other two, suggesting two different strikers.
Dishes like these often found church use. In excellent overall condition, there are a few dings in the dishes but they show only a little wear on the upper surface. The wear is relatively greater on the bottom. SOLD
