Attributed Gershom Jones Flower Handle Porringer, c. 1795
A fine example of a late eighteenth, early nineteenth century flower handle porringer attributed to Gershom Jones of Providence Rhode Island. Gershom made a four different flower handle porringers and this one is not often photographed. A marked handle is photographed in Laughlin Volume I, Plate L 341. The 5" diameter bowl has a few small minor surface imperfections. Note the chatter marks below the linen mark. There are no dents or dings or repairs.
A single earlier porringer with a stag mark from the same mold, presumably from Boston according to scholars, is known but is not attributed to Gershom Jones (see An American Pewter Collection - The Collection of Dr. Melvyn and Bette Wolf, item #590).
An excellent condition example at a fraction of a marked example.
