David or Thomas Melville Newport Rhode Island Pewter Solid Handle Porringer, ca. 1795
A fine condition solid handle porringer with cast TM (J-219) marks on the bracket. While the cast initials are TM
suggesting manufacture by Thomas Melville (1793-1796), some TM porringers are found with the anchor touch
mark or hallmarks known to have been used by David Melville (1755-1793). It is possible those, like this
porringer, with planished backs are earlier and could possibly be ascribed to David.
A terrific and very scarce 5-1/16' bowl diameter porringer.
