Jacob Whitmore American Pewter 7-7/8" Plate, ca. 1758-1790
An excellent marked pewter plate by Jacob Whitmore of Middletown Connecticut, ca. 1758-1790, in the
"semi-deep" 7-7/8" size. This size plate is a bit deeper than his other known 8" range plate. The Danforth clan
and Jacob maintained shared business interests and mold ownership was shared on some forms. On this
website, plates marked by Samuel Danforth and Joseph (William & Jonathan) Danforth also came from this same
mold.
The plate is in very good to fine condition. Jacob's rose and crown touch mark (J-208) is double-struck, as is
typical, on the reverse. Jacob's touches are rarely struck well and these are above-average strikes. Some effort
was certainly made on these strikes as they "show through" to the front.
